Biden Ends Reelection Bid, Endorses Harris for 2024

US President Joe Biden, 81, ended his reelection campaign on July 21, citing concerns about his ability to win against Donald Trump. In a post on X, Biden announced he would remain president until January 2025 and endorsed Vice-President Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate. This makes Harris the first Black woman to lead a major-party ticket. Biden emphasized party unity to defeat Trump in 2024. Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison stated that more details about the nomination process will be shared soon. This marks the first time in over 50 years an incumbent president has withdrawn from the race.
